Ideal Produce Types for Great Oral HealthThe health benefits of fruit and vegetables are well known, they give us the vitamins, minerals and fiber we need to live a healthy lifestyle. But in terms of the oral cavity, some produce is better than others, and it can be beneficial to know which ones have a greater health benefit, in order to incorporate them more into your diet. This information is particularly helpful if you have children, as you may want to put some of these fruits and veggies into their lunchboxes.

The Best Fruit and Veg for Your Teeth

The proverbial doctor is in fact kept away by the apple, as it is an amazingly effective snack to have at the end of a meal. Not only are there the obvious health benefits, being high in fiber and vitamin C, apples also help wash away bacteria in the mouth, by stimulating the salivary glands. Apples can help clean the mouth at the end of a meal, ideal for lunchtimes when we often do not brush our teeth afterwards.

Carrots and celery are also known for their saliva stimulation and can help wash away the harmful bacteria and sugar after a meal. Putting some sticks of carrot into your child's lunchbox can help maintain the cleanliness of their teeth throughout the day.

Some dried fruit are also beneficial to your oral health. While being a quick, healthy snack one can enjoy both at the office and at home, raisins, dried plums, and cranberries have been shown to help prevent cavities. The dried fruit contains substances that helps fight off bacteria. So not only are you receiving the vitamins you need, but the fruit is fighting the bacteria as well.

Produce is not just beneficial for the vitamins and minerals they contain, but they can also help clean the mouth, and fend off harmful bacteria. Our team can advise you on what food and drinks is best for the mouth, and what to avoid to prevent cavities.
